Urban Bar – Hertfordshire
Urban Bar, a market leading provider of glassware and barware in Hertfordshire, was in need of an air conditioning system, following an extremely hot and uncomfortable summer the year before, and asked Fourways Ltd, who happened to be their close neighbour, to quote for the supply, installation and commissioning of a Panasonic PACi R32 split system, utilising the FZ range of wall mounted units.
The project, unique in that the Urban Bar site is a converted barn, was supported by AMP Air, who provided the units so that Fourways were able to deliver an incredible installation.
A few challenges became apparent during the process of this project, all due to the structural make-up of the building itself. As a former barn, the rear of this building had no ceilings or false walls – the place an installer would usually hide the wires etc. This would make the installation a particularly tricky one, as all of the wiring and pipework would need to be on display, whilst not interfering with the overall aesthetics of the modern office design and recently installed digital wallpapers.
A further challenge was that many of the interior walls were being used for glassware displays, making it rather difficult for Fourways to fit the system in a way that would be neat, aesthetically pleasing and functional.
As soon as Urban Bar approached Fourways, Bill Malster, project lead, went to the site to meet with the client to discuss their requirements, timescales and project length.
Due to the nature of this installation, the first thing Fourways had to do was to take a step back and think carefully about which system would work best for Urban Bar, and how best to organise the system. Fourways knew that they could rely on AMP to fulfil the requirements that such a challenging project would bring, and decided upon a 9kW Panasonic FZ Wall Mounted unit for the main office space, and 2.5kW FZ units for each of the meeting rooms. Following quotation, Fourways were able to agree a plan with Urban Bar and make a start on the project!
Installation began with the easier front section of the building, Fourways fitted indoor and outdoor units in the usual manner, using struts on the outside of the building, to raise and fix the units..
Fourways then had to overcome the lack of ceilings and false walls in the office, by surface mounting the outdoor remaining outdoor units at the rear of the building, installing the system wall to wall, careful not to overwhelm the rustic exterior.
The entire installation process took only four days, in part due to how easy AMP Air’s Panasonic units are to install.
The installation of a high-quality air conditioning system was a long time coming for Urban Bar, after suffering both extremely hot summers and extremely cold winters over the last few years.
Bill, the lead installer on the project, spoke incredibly highly of AMP Air. ‘They’re the best of the best’, he said, praising their excellent response rate in particular. He said that Fourways have been dealing with AMP Air for 18 years and they have never once had an issue with the supplier. They can be contacted incredibly easily and if they miss a call, they will always call back within 15 minutes.
Though dubious about trying Panasonic units at first, Fourways were incredibly impressed by the high quality, and will now always use them, continuing to work with AMP Air for the foreseeable future.
Urban Bar, too, are thrilled with the system and the service provided to them by Fourways Ltd. and AMP Air. Now the offices are enjoying a comfortable temperature all year around and the unusual look of the system being on display fits in well with the industrial chic theme of the building!
